VNBusinessNews – Intel Corp, the world’s biggest chip maker, will complete construction of a USUS$1 billion assembly and test chip plant in Viet Nam at the end of 2009, General Director of Intel Products Viet Nam, Rick Howarth said.
Rick Howarth confirmed the news after Intel had recently reshuffled its units in Asia including closing one factory in the Philippines and moving two units to Kulim from Penang in Malaysia.
Once operational in 2010 at full capacity, the factory will employ about 4,000 workers and generate expected exports revenue of US$5 billion to US$6 billion a year.
Last year, Intel had chosen local engineers for further training in Malaysia and China, and 40 most excellent students to be trained in Portland State University in Oregon State of the U.S.
Intel Corp forecasts that this year sales of PC in Vietnam will rise 11 per cent on year.
