LOBITO, ANGOLA: Technip plans to expand its Angoflex umbilical manufacturing plant in Lobito, Angola, to meet a growing demand for longer length and larger diameter umbilicals in West Africa. The expansion of the facility is expected to be completed by 2010.
Angoflex is a joint venture between Technip and Angolan national oil company Sonangol. The venture was established in 2002. The facility serves the West African deepwater market, and is the only facility of its kind in the region.
The expansion will include the installation of two large manufacturing carousels, an upgrade to a Helical lay-up machine and a load out roller path. Technip and Sonangol are developing the Lobito facility along with the Angoflex spoolbase at Dande and an engineering center in Lunada. Together, these facilities form a hub to serve the region’s deepwater market.
